Writing About The Feudal Japan Period

The feudal japan is quite famous because of the perfect mix of mythology and reality that that certain time period brought  to people. Feudal Japan is a period where the power rested on daimyos (large regional families) and shoguns (warlords) during the 12th to 19th century.  It was separated into periods, depending on the reigning family of the shogun.

  1. Samurais and Ninjas – While the abilities of these two highly popular classes of people are over hyped in fictional stories, no they cannot fly, or do amazing super human feats, the fact that they were truly players in these period of japan makes them good topics. A writer can try to explain the truths regarding their role in the formation of the history of Japan.
  2. Fiction inspired by this period – The writer could also focus on the numerous fiction works that were based upon these period of Japan. From books, novels (the Asian Saga made by James Clavell come to mind), to anime programs (Rurouni Kenshin) and movies (Last Samurai), this period  was a launching pad for those kind of media. The term paper writer could try and see how plausible these fictional events were. The writer could also go back and see what inspired these works.
  3. The famous battles – As the name implies, feudal Japan period is filled with feuds and battles between the various feudal lords. The writer can focus on these battles by discussing how they came to be, how victory was achieved, or perhaps even discuss the famous leaders who took part in the battle.

Debbie C. Frink is a car accident lawyer and a self-admitted Japanophile, or a lover of all things Japanese.  Her fascination with Japan started when she first read a story by the author Haruki Murakami for her literature class. Now, a part of the teaching staff at a university in California, she makes it a part of her curriculum to require students to write a term paper about Asian novels.

Ricky Rubio

So what’s up with Ricky Rubio? I’m not really a fan of the Timberwolves, but I’m an NBA freak so it’s worth knowing who this Spanish basketball star is. At present, Ricky’s one of the youngest NBA players today, and he’s considered to be among the top-ranking point-guards in his homeland, Spain.

I’ve only seen Ricky on the court a few times, but I could say that he’s got the right agility and endurance to last the whole game. His individualism however tends to be intimidating, to the point that it affects his teammates too. But I’m not really against that; in fact, his pseudo-narcissism on the court is what drives him to score points.

If there’s one thing I like about Ricky, it’s that he knows whom to pass the ball. Very contradicting for a highly individualistic shooter, but he knows how to play with the whole team whenever necessary (based on his rebounds and assists stats). He hasn’t showed off his full potential on the NBA yet (the season just started), but he did showcase his skills at the 2008 Olympics, where he played for the Spanish National Team.

He only became part of the NBA last December 2011, and this makes him the 10th Spanish NBA player. Will he be as good as current titans Pau and Marc Gasol? He may not be as tall as them but he’s got the same skills at hand-I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets to surpass them in a few seasons or so.

I Don’t Want When I’ll Get Older and Il’l be Like, What If?

My greatest take away from watching the Robin Williams movie Dead Poets Society for a literature class was to seize the day. I realized that I don’t like when ill get older and I will be like what if I had done this, or what if I had done that. What I would want is to seize the moment and do everything I want so that there will be no regrets in the end.

I hope that people don’t misinterpret this to mean that I would become reckless and just do anything and everything that comes to mind. What I mean is that whenever there is something that I would feel so strongly about doing, perhaps it is trying out for a play, going out with a certain guy, or trying a more difficult course, then I should toughen up and actually go out and try to accomplish these things.

As I said, I don’t like it when I’ll get older and will be like what if this was better or what if that had been my choice. The movie that I saw really made me realize that our time here on earth can be quite short. We should not waste it by dilly dallying and thinking about the “what ifs” and the like. We should try to live our lives to the fullest extent possible so that we won’t look back at it when we are older and start thinking of possibilities we’ve missed because of fear, pressure or whatever else.
